Instrumental Music/Band Program

The Melba College music program is renowned for the inherent academic, social and cultural learning opportunities it affords as well as for the pleasure it brings audiences locally and internationally.

Learning occurs in a safe and stimulating environment. Each student’s participation and contribution is valued. The skill development and satisfaction that comes with discipline, persistence, cooperation and camaraderie is its own reward. And it’s great fun!


Our ensemble options cater for a range of student needs and interests. They include:

  • Bent Brass Ensemble

  • School Marching Band
  • Vocal Groups
  • Guitars, Latin Guitars
  • Percussion

Melba College music students routinely perform:

  • in the annual ANZAC Day Parade in the CBD
  • two annual evening concerts at the college
  • in the annual Road to Bethlehem event
  • Christmas Carols in Main Street Croydon
  • Moomba Parade


School Band and ‘rock and pop’ group members receive lessons for approximately $250 for the full year.


Regular national and international Tours are organised to expose students to wide ranging musical and performance opportunities.

Tours itineraries have included Los Angeles, Monterrey and San Francisco; China and Singapore.
