Melba College boasts a strong debating culture over many years and our teams have enjoyed great success including titles of State Champions and State Runners-Up in the Debaters Association of Victoria Schools Competition.
Students from Years 9 – 12 have the opportunity to participate in the Ringwood Region of the DAV Schools Program, whilst our Year 7 and 8 students are invited to take part in the DAV’s Junior Secondary Program which has been successfully hosted by the Croydon Campus over the last 3 years.
We look forward to the continuation and further development of this important part of our co-curricular program as Melba College.

Debating is an outstanding way to develop confidence in a number of areas including:

Working in teams
Critical reading and evaluation skills
Writing skills
Public speaking
Academic extension
Problem based learning activities

The program also provides an excellent opportunity to interact with students from other schools and teachers in an academic forum.

Each team works in close contact with a teacher coach and an experienced older student mentor to prepare their debates.
The 2013 the DAV’s Schools Competition will run over 5 nights from March through to August. The Junior Program will run over four nights between August and October.

We look forward to a strong future for debating at Melba College
