Exchange Program
Melba College is proud of it’s German Exchange Program and it’s partnership with the Albert Einstein Gymnasium in Ulm, Germany. As part of this partnership, students studying German in Year 11 have the opportunity to take part in an exchange program, where Australian students host a German exchange partner in July and then visit Germany in late November and December. The German Exchange Program continues to grow at the college, with the expansion of the program to incorporate a 3rd school, Highvale Secondary College in 2011, to enable even greater opportunities for our students to travel, experience German culture and improve their German proficiency.
Once in Germany, students take part in a 4-week home stay program. Students also travel to the capital, Berlin, for a 2-night cultural and historical study of the city. The are immense benefits of the exchange program; students spend 4 weeks immersed in the German language, and their German proficiency and language abilities, both in comprehension and production, increase dramatically, which provides a tremendous advantage entering into Year 12 Studies have shown that students who have travelled to Germany perform much better in exams compared to those who have not. Long life partnerships and friendships develop through the program, and maturity and independence, formed through the necessity of confronting challenging scenarios outside of one’s own comfort zone, is furthered through our program.
